NATO Ready to Provide Security to Nabucco Pipeline
Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 May / Trend corr. I.Alizade / The NATO is ready to provide security to the Nabucco pipeline if the construction project of the pipeline, which will promote transport of the Caspian region natural gas to Europe, will be implemented. "If the directions and funds of the project will be defined, then NATO will try to provide security to the pipeline," Ziyafat Askarov, Vice Speaker and Head of Azerbaijani Delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly, stated to journalists.
The issue to provide the energy security in the Euro-Atlantic area was discussed in the latest spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. The report on the Nabucco pipeline construction was also heard in the session.
"NATO experts believe that the Nabucco project must be implemented," Askarov said.
According to Askarov, the West takes active efforts to implement the project. It is expected that NATO PA will continue similar discussions to provide security to supply of hydrocarbon reserves to the Euro Atlantic area.
Azerbaijan is an associative member of NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
