Amnesty in Georgia to Concern 12,000 Convicts

Georgia, Tbilisi, 13 November / corr Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / Based on the amnesty act, dated 23 November, 2,000 convicts will be released, punishment term of 3,500 convicts shortened and 6,500 convicts exculpated, Giya Tortladze, a representative of antirecessionary council, said in the recent briefing.

He said the council succeeded in increasing the number of amnestied articles up to 23. Totally, the authorities submitted 31 articles for the amnesty.

Abuse of power, misappropriation of office duties and bribe were among the additional articles. The convicts accused in accordance with these articles will be released from prison after the additional amnesty act is issued on individual cases.
