Azerbaijan, Baku, November 28/ Trend , corr A. Aliyev/ "By providing their own energy security, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan play an important role in the energy security all over the world," Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in Ashgabat on November 28.
The Azerbaijani-Turkmen ties are developing and differ for their dynamics, President said.
"Location of our countries in the same geographic zone open new opportunities to enhance relations which gives a stimulus to development of relations in political, economic, social, humanitarian and energy spheres," Ilham Aliyev told a joint news conference on the results of talks with the Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov.
President said the meeting with his Turkmen counterpart focused on cooperation between the two states in the Caspian region and ensuring regional security.
"The cooperation between the two countries is developing rapidly in a number of spheres," Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov stated.
" Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are cooperating in the sphere of energy sources and there is mutual understanding between two countries," Turkmen President noted. "The trade turnover between the two republics went up by eight times over the last nine months".
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, in Jan-Oct, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan totaled to $53.44mln. Export of Azerbaijani goods to Turkmenistan totaled to $11.89mln and import of Turkmen goods exceeded $41.5mln.
Turkmen President also noted progress in cooperation in the sphere of transport which plays a key role in the region.
