Azerbaijan, Baku, May 8 / Trend , A.Huseynbala/
Chairman of the Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh community believes that Azerbaijan's occupied territories will be returned within a short period of time.
"Thanks to the Azerbaijani president's efforts, the negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh have been accelerated. We believe the occupied territories, including Shusha will be returned to Azerbaijan under the Supreme Commander's leadership," Chairman of the Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh Community Union and Head of the Shusha Region Administration Bayram Safarov told journalists on May 8.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Safarov said Shusha will be more beautiful than it was earlier after its return.
Today is the 17th anniversary of Shusha's occupation.
