The Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation and Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius met in Vilnius on May 15. The parties discussed to further develop economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania and joint interest in implementing giant energy projects, Premier's Advisor Riddas Yasulenis said.

The Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Ogtay Asadov is in an official visit to Lithuania on May 14-16.

The Lithuanian premier and Azerbaijani speaker spoke about the perspectives of the Nabucco gas pipeline and Odessa-Brody oil pipeline.

Transportation via the Odessa-Brody pipeline can become one of the directions diversifying delivery of oil produced in the Caspian region, being attractive to all oil and gas producing countries of the region. Azerbaijan has voiced its readiness to offer its oil to technical work in this pipeline - this is the volume of approximately 370,000 tons.

Continued pipeline via the Odessa-Brody-Plock-Gdansk pipeline will enable to bring oil to the Baltic Sea.

The Nabucco project worth 7.9 billion euro will deliver Azerbaijani and Central Asian gas to the EU by 2014. Construction of the pipeline is expected to begin in 2011. Its maximum capacity will be 31 billion cubic meters per year. Nabucco shareholders are the Austrian OMV, Hungarian MOL, Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas and German RWE with 16.7 percent each

Asadov expressed Azerbaijan's interest in a transport corridor which is provided by Lithuania in direction of the European Union and Caspian region.

The sides noted importance of Lithuania's experience in the Euro-Atlantic integration.

Lithuania's experience is extraordinary valuable for Azerbaijan which focuses on close cooperation with the EU, Asadov said.

The goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Lithuania was roughly $2.5 million in January-February 2009.
