New trust potential must be created via cooperation in settlement of territorial conflicts: German FM

The unsolved territorial conflicts have no right to exist in Europe in the 21st century, convinced German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, ITAR-TASS reported.

He said "we need to create a new trust potential through cooperation in resolving territorial conflicts, which are still too many - it is enough to mention Transnistria, Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia and South Ossetia."

"We certainly need progress in the peaceful solution of all these conflicts," emphasized the German foreign minister, speaking today at the Moscow House of Scientists. He said it means nothing more than the need for a "constructive position of all, including the constructive participation of Russia."

The German foreign minister expressed his regret that "the efforts to extent the OSCE presence in South Ossetia have not yet been successful." The minister added "the more important is the progress of the Security Council on the UN's presence in Georgia and, hopefully, including Abkhazia."

The Minister reminded that the meeting of the OSCE Foreign Ministers will take place in the Corfu Island. "We will discuss President Medvedev's proposal to create the architecture of European security." It would be a pity, if all these meetings and talks on the Corfu island "held by the shadow of the" failure of talks in New York and Georgia, and the UN presence in the region, "said Foreign Minister of Germany.
