Lithuania marks thousandth anniversary

Lithuania marks its thousandth anniversary.

Lithuania was first mentioned in European chronicle 1,000 years ago. 

Culmination of celebrations on thousandth anniversary of Lithuania was international celebrations in Vilnius on July 6. July 6 is the day of Lithuanian king Mindaugas coronation ruling by Lithuania in mid. of XIII century.   

Lithuanian king Mindaugas was the only monarch in Lithuania. He was crowned in summer 1253. Nobody had title of king before him. Later monarchs ruled by Lithuania and Poland.  

Data of Mindaugas's crowning is July 6. It is the date of anniversary of Lithuania.

Grand holiday on traditional Lithuanian song, as well as opening of great prince's palace of rulers were held. Its construction lasted several last years according to kept drafts, Lithuanian ambassador to Azerbaijan Kestutis Kudzmamas told Trend on July 7.    

Three kings from Sweden, Denmark and Norway, presidents of several countries, head of governments and numerous world official guests participated in celebrations important for Lithuania, ambassador said. 

Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev represented Azerbaijan at celebrations. Garayev met with Lithuanian Prime-Minister Andrius Kubilius in Vilnius. Exchange of opinions was conducted with Lithuanian president Valdas Adamkus, diplomat said.
