Successful chairmanship in the OSCE is a national strategic project, said the Kazakh Secretary of State and Foreign Minister, Kanat Saudabayev, at the first meeting of the State Commission on Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the OSCE.

The Kazakh President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, attaches great importance to Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the OSCE, said Saudabayev.

"Our country's chairmanship of the OSCE is a national strategic project," said the Kazakh Foreign Minister.

He said that it is a unique opportunity for the country to demonstrate its practicality; the next such chance will occur in 55 years time, considering the fact that the OSCE has 56 member countries.

"Among the unbiased factors behind the choice of Kazakhstan as OSCE Chairman, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's personal charisma and enormous international prestige has become the defining one," said Saudabayev.

Saudabayev noted that the Foreign Ministry is currently working to complete the conceptual and methodological base for the "Kazakhstan-OSCE" political campaign. He said an extensive range of high-level tasks and responsibilities for this period, and the Kazakh government agencies' ability to address them, should become a basis to further strengthen Kazakhstan's authority on the world stage, creating favorable conditions for the country's further development and to strengthen its positive international image.
