Iran's Intelligence Ministry has identified and arrested some of the main perpetrators of the recent series of assassinations in the western province of Kordistan, Press TV reported.
According to the ministry, two of the terrorists were killed and some of them were arrested in an operation carried out on Sunday, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.
"The terrorists, extremists linked to some foreign services, had been ordered to carry out a mission to divide Sunni and Shia brothers," the report said.
"Several guns and weapons were confiscated from the terrorist group," the report added.
On September 17, Mamousta Sheikholeslam, the representative of the people of Kordistan Province in Iran's Assembly of Experts, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in a mosque in the provincial capital of Sanandaj.
Just a few days before that, Sanandaj's interim Friday prayers leader Borhan Ali was also shot dead by three unidentified assailants.
Unknown gunmen also carried out two assassination attempts on two local judges in Sanandaj. The judges, however, survived the attacks.
