Central Election Committee registers two NGOs to hold exit-poll at municipal elections in Azerbaijan

Today the Azerbaijani Central Election Committee has registered the Azerbaijani Independent Research Center 'ELS' and the Association for Civil Society Development to hold a joint exit-poll due to the municipal elections.

Today the Azerbaijani Central Election Committee has registered the Azerbaijani Independent Research Center 'ELS' and the Association for Civil Society Development to hold a joint exit-poll due to the municipal elections.

The Central Election Committee secretary Natiq Mammadov said that exit-poll will be held in 17 constituencies. About 533 individuals will be drawn from both organizations.  

Azerbaijani municipal elections are scheduled for December 23. About 15,682 members are expected to be elected for 1,718 municipalities.

Azerbaijan has registered about 32,000 candidates for municipal members. Candidates from 18 political parties have been registered for elections. Candidates refer to 30 political parties.

Municipal elections were held twice in 1999 and 2004.

Mammadov said that the Central Election Committee has registered 635 local observers now. About 26,552 observers have been registered in constituencies.
