Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, June 9 / Trend H. Hasanov /

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov signed the decree "Creation of Naval Institute of the Turkmen Ministry of Defence."

The decision to open the school was adopted in accordance with military doctrine of independent neutral Turkmenistan as well as to secure protection of the offshore border and ensure its security, training of necessary specialists for the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan.

National TV channel Altyn Asir reported that the Turkmen leader also ordered to organize the admission of students for the created institution and other military schools at the highest level.

Berdimuhammedov noted that fully trained, physically healthy and spiritually committed young people willing to honestly serve the country and ensure full respect for the rule of law in the country should be admitted.

The establishment of the Turkmen Navy was discussed for the first time in August 2009. Then, the authorities noted that Turkmenistan has a long border in the Caspian Sea, which must be securely guarded onshore.

According to Berdimuhammedov's decree, a naval base, which will be equipped with modern techniques of observation and ships with missiles on board will be established by 2015.

The need for such measures was motivated by the fact that international extremist and terrorist groups interested in drug smuggling intensify in today's world.

Turkmenistan has a military doctrine developed by taking into account the country's neutral status and defense. The country is not represented in any of the military-political blocs.
