No competitor is able to somehow prevent the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) in upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, NAP Deputy Chairman Ali Ahmedov said in an interview with the Azerbaijan newspaper.

"I want to note this fact as an indicator of the party's strength and the confidence of Azerbaijani voters to the NAP. Of course, it is also an indicator of the weakness of the Azerbaijani opposition. In this sense, I do not consider plausible the possibility of any significant activity by the political opposition in the upcoming parliamentary elections. But, I would not like to see my words have been evaluated as a reference to opposition parties to refuse from participating in the parliamentary elections. The main argument for the existence and condition of presence of any political party is its participation in the political process, including the most vivid form of political processes - the parliamentary elections," Ahmedov said.

Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for early November.

Ahmedov said the parties, which do not participate in the elections, have no sense in existing in the country and in general raison d'être.

"Therefore, we urge the opposition parties to work actively in the elections. Azerbaijani opposition hemmed in by domestic intrigue. This is one of the main reasons for which the opposition is losing its credibility and respect in the Azerbaijani society. In fact, internal intrigues and bickering show the opposition's disinterest in serious participation in political processes. The impression is that the opposition parties, instead of participating in political life, rather than to demonstrate any positive point of view, most aspire to deal with internal intrigues," he said.

Ahmedov said the opposition's little power and resources aimed at resolving their internal problems.

"They are alien to the unifying and creative source. The bickering an strife weaken the already small opposition forces," he added.
