Azerbaijani opposition party identifies parliamentary candidates

The Azerbaijani National Independence Party of (ANIP) has identified candidates for 70 constituencies in parliamentary elections to take place in November, the press and propaganda secretary of the ANIP, Ali Orujov, said on Saturday.

The Azerbaijani National Independence Party of (ANIP) has identified candidates for 70 constituencies in parliamentary elections to take place in November, the press and propaganda secretary of the ANIP, Ali Orujov, said on Saturday.

"Today, the ANIP Central Council held a meeting and identified candidates in 70 constituencies. Some independent candidates also will be included into the party's list of candidates. The candidates for the remaining constituencies will be determined in coming days," Orujov added.

Azerbaijan kicked off its election campaign on Sept. 4.

President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on Sept. 3 scheduling the next parliamentary elections for Nov. 7.

Previous elections in the legislature were held in November 2005. In Azerbaijan, parliamentary elections are held on the majority system in 125 electoral districts.
