The 65th session of UN General Assembly opened in New York today with the general debate to be preceded by the UN Summit on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ten years after the goals were set.

The 65th session of UN General Assembly opened in New York today with the general debate to be preceded by the UN Summit on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ten years after the goals were set.

Special attention will be given to reform of the UN Security Council, the strengthening of the UN General Assembly, and the restoration of its leading and influential role on the world stage under the conditions of financial crisis, climate change, poverty, and assaults on human rights.

More than 145 presidents and heads of governments will participate at the summit.

The main themes of the general debates of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly will include global security, overcoming the consequences of the global economic crisis and other issues of common concern.

A Kazakh delegation's speech will focus on nuclear disarmament, global and regional security, measures to overcome consequences of the global crisis and the formation of post-crisis world order, the fight against natural and man-made disasters, and other issues.
