Georgian State Minister for Reintegration Temur Yakobashvili believes simplification of visa regime for residents of the North Caucasus is a correct and timely decision of the government.
Immediate neighbors of Georgia are the Chechens and Ingush, so the relationship with them and simplification of visa regime is a priority for the country's leadership, he said after a meeting of the government.
With regards to the statements by Russia in connection with the protection of safety standards and the entry of terrorists to the country, Yakobashvili said that visa regime does not create obstacles for criminals and terrorists, and they do not need to obtain visas.
"At one time the Russians did not ask for visa when they entered the territory of Georgia on the tanks. Of course, there are security mechanisms, and those who were named in the black list will not be able to enter the country. Russia's statements that supposedly the terrorists can enter Georgia in this way are also unclear," said the minister and added that he is also surprised comment on this issue by the Georgian experts.
