A meeting was held on the results of the service and fighting activity of the State Border Service in 2010.

During the reported period, 11,033 individuals, involved in the violation of borders and border regime were detained, 369 of which are border violators, said at a meeting held today.

Some 29.3 percent (108 persons in 76 cases) of those detained during the year, crossed the border from Azerbaijan's territory in the direction of neighboring countries, 70.7 percent (261 persons in 148 cases) - from neighboring countries' territories in the direction of Azerbaijan.

Some 59.1 percent of offenders are citizens of Azerbaijan, 10.6 - Iran, 8.9 - Georgia, 4.9 - Russia, 4.6 - Bangladesh, 3.8 - Afghanistan, 3 percent - Pakistan, 5.1 - other countries.

The number of detained offenders increased 3.9 percent in 2010 as compared with the previous year. During the reporting period, in nine cases the offenders made armed resistance to border guards. Three offenders using arms against guards were disarmed. During the year, 929 persons wanted were detained. Carrying 235 kilograms 670 grams of narcotics across the border was prevented. 32,800 plants of narcotic origin with total weight of 11 tons and 51 kg were found and destroyed.
