Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 21 /Trend, E.Ostapenko/

EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby will visit Baku on 23-24 January, said the service of Special Representative.

The main purpose of the visit is to discuss the ongoing processes in Azerbaijan and the entire South Caucasus, said the statement.

During his visit, Semneby will hold regular consultations with the Azerbaijani authorities, as well as meet with the Ombudsman and representatives of civil society.

Details of the visit are not reported.

In late May last year, the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton offered to withdraw the EU special representatives from the South Caucasus countries and Moldova - zones of 'frozen conflicts'.

According to Ashton's proposal, special representative post must be combined with the post of European Commission President, and later with the post of representative of the European External Action Service.
