EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby visited the Pankisi Gorge. He got acquainted with the living conditions of Chechen refugees and met with representatives of local authorities.

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby visited the Pankisi Gorge. He got acquainted with the living conditions of Chechen refugees and met with representatives of local authorities.

Koba Maisuradze, the head of the Akhmet municipality, said that four schools are being restored with the UN financial support in the villages where Chechen refugees live. The problem with drinking water was resolved within the program. The kindergartens were repaired. The central highway was restored.

Maisuradze told the EU Special Representative that there is a stable criminogenic situation in the Pankisi Gorge over the last two years.
