The role of Azerbaijan in the Eurasian region was discussed at the initiative of the European Club under Harvard University, the general consulate of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles said.
Speaking as a key reporter of Azerbaijan's Consul General in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov stressed that during 20 years Azerbaijan strengthened its statehood when it gained its independence.
It enables Baku to conduct foreign policy based on pragmatism and national interests. Setting successful cooperation and integration of Azerbaijan and Georgia as the example, the diplomat noted that Armenia is still self-isolated in the region as a result of ill-conceived and short-sighted policy of Yerevan. At the same time, despite the 20-year period since 1991, Armenia's dependence on outside forces is not reduced, but rather intensifies.
The Consul General called the unresolved conflicts as the biggest threat to the security and future of the region. The diplomat said that the need for speedy settlement of the conflict and its humanitarian consequences are observed on the eve of the anniversary of its worst pages - Khojaly tragedy.
Azerbaijani diplomat also expressed hope that Washington's approach towards the region will become more strategic and long-term in the nearest future.
Harvard University Professor Karl Kaiser and Georgian former Minister of Defence David Sikharulidze attended the workshop.
