A new stage in the history of Azerbaijan began on 15 June 1993, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, MP Musa Gasimli told Trend.
"The state independence of Azerbaijan was preserved in this period, the country was saved from the chaos and civil war," said Gasimli.
He said Heydar Aliyev's return to political power in the country put an end to the activities of forces who wanted to destroy the independence of Azerbaijan.
"For this reason, June 15 is a significant day in the history of independent Azerbaijan," said Gasimli.
Azerbaijan celebrates the Day of National Salvation on June 15.
Heydar Aliyev was elected the chairman of the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan Republic 15 June 1993. The Parliament declared that day a holiday in June 1997.
