Iran does not hurry to appoint an ambassador to the UK, Iranian FM spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast said in an interview with Mehr News Agency.

"We are either unwilling to narrow our diplomatic relations with the UK," he said.

Iran and the UK have restricted bilateral diplomatic relations to the level of charge d'affaires in their embassies since 2009, after Iranian disputed presidential elections. Iran charges the UK on interfering in Iran's interior affairs and the UK accuses Iran on abusing human rights.

In April, Iranian Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Hassan Abou-Torabi said decreasing ties with the UK is on the Iranian lawmakers' agenda and it will be considered by the Parliament in due time.

Earlier in January, a group of Iranian lawmakers announced plans to set up a special fraction at the parliament tasked with pursuing initiatives to cut all relations with the British government, following remarks made by the British ambassador to Iran Simon Gass for criticizing the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic.

Britain is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council adopted in June 2010 the resolution imposing the fourth round of sanctions over Iran because of the refusal to abandon its enrichment program.
