The Novruz holiday is now included in the calendar of the OSCE official holidays. According to the initiative of Azerbaijan's Permanent Mission to the OSCE, the OSCE Secretary General made this decision, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry said on Monday.
The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution 'International Day of Novruz' on February 24, 2010. According to it, the UN recognises March 21 as International Day of Novruz and calls upon member states of the organisation to make efforts to disseminate knowledge about this ancient holiday.
Previously, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry had prepared a draft resolution for the UN General Assembly to recognise Novruz as an international holiday. This was presented to Azerbaijan's permanent mission to the UN to further its coordination with other countries.
Novruz is the most joyful holiday of all the national holidays of many Eastern peoples as the days are getting longer after March 21.
