Public and political figures of Azerbaijan called Iranian note funny and provocative.
"I consider behavior of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran as a response to the growing discontent in Azerbaijan, due to Iran's provocative policy towards Azerbaijan for over the past six months," MP from the Ana Vatan party Zahid Oruj told Trend.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Iran Javanshir Akhundov was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry on February 12.
A protest note, which stated that Azerbaijan creates conditions at its territory for the anti-Iranian activities of the MOSSAD Israeli intelligence service, and for free entry and exit to Azerbaijan of the terrorists involved in the murder of Iranian nuclear scientists and requirement to cease to take such steps, is presented to the Ambassador at the meeting.
Tehran has also said that the Azerbaijani custom officers create difficulty for visitors from Iran.
Orudj also noted that Azerbaijan has maintained a neutral position with regard to Iran for many years.
He also noted that Azerbaijan is not interested in providing intelligence services within its territory or take sides in Iran's relations with Israel, nor take any steps to stimulate the anti-Iranian attitude of West.
Speaking about non-transmission of Iran's trucks by custom officers, Orudj said that it is directly connected with the facts of violation of regulations. "This applies not only to the citizens of Iran, but also to businesses and individuals within Azerbaijan, as well as on the border with Russia and Georgia," Orudj added.
Iran is making baseless accusations, MP from the Party "Great Creation" Fazil Mustafa told Trend.
"Iran, knowing that it doesn't have enough strength against the U.S. and Israel, makes such unfounded accusations against neighboring countries, wishing to show them its power. It's pretty ridiculous charges, and any such charge may cause problems for Iran itself," Mustafa told Trend.
Political scientist Fikret Sadikhov said that Azerbaijan is one of the few countries that do not stand in a hostile position to Iran's interests in the region. "Despite the bad calls and the statements of the Iranian side in the official and unofficial levels, we try to act with a restraint" Sadikhov said.
Sadikhov noted that there is a ground for improvement of relations between the countries based on years of Azerbaijani-Iranian relations, cooperation and the neighborhood.
"Azerbaijan has always adequately responded to all the insults. But the fact that Iran made the note says that Iran is in a difficult geopolitical situation and looking for an enemy" Sadikhov added.
Sadikhov said that Azerbaijan has always stood against the military solution of the Iranian nuclear issue.
"Attempt of Iran to accuse Azerbaijan does not correspond with reality and it is absurd. Such statements don't meet the spirit of mutual cooperation. If it is necessary to find an enemy, they must to seek it not in Azerbaijan, but in the countries preparing a plan against Iran. Azerbaijan has nothing to do with it," Sadikhov said.
