Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said the country will maintain good neighborly relations with Iran.

"Given the importance of the Nakhchivan declaration signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran, as well as bilateral visits between Azerbaijan and Iran, we maintain good relations with Iran," a spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told Trend on Sunday, commenting the information of Iranian media about the fact that Azerbaijani ambassador was invited to the Foreign Ministry of Iran.

Abdullayev confirmed the fact that ambassador to Tehran was invited to Iran's foreign ministry.

IRNA reported earlier, that Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundov on Saturday was invited to the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry.

Akhundov received Iran's protest over accusations against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of plotting terrorist attacks in Baku.

The ambassador said that he will convey Iran's reaction to his government.

Earlier this week as a result of a special operation conducted by the Azerbaijani Ministry of National Security, a group of 22 individuals was revealed and detained. It is accused of espionage activity against Azerbaijan on the instructions of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Meeting of foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran, Elmar Mammadyarov, Ahmet Davutoglu, and Ali Akbar Salehi, which ended with the adoption of the final document - a statement, was held in Nakhchivan on March 7.
