Azerbaijan, Baku, May 25 / Trend M.Aliyev /
At a meeting of the European Parliament Committee on Cooperation, which will be held on June 20 - 21 in Brussels, the Azerbaijani delegation will express its strong protest against the resolution adopted by the European Parliament in connection with the human rights situation in Azerbaijan.
Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Valeh Alasgarov is surprised by resolution that the European Parliament adopted in connection with the human rights situation in Azerbaijan. The resolution was adopted at an emergency meeting, Alasgarov told reporters on Friday.
He said that a month ago during the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly meeting held in Baku, documents on human rights, freedom of speech were adopted. But less than a month has passed since European Parliament convened an urgent meeting with the participation of 56 out of 754 deputies, of whom 49 people have voted "for", and on this basis a resolution on the human rights situation in Azerbaijan was adopted.
"It should be noted that on June 20 - 21 a meeting of the Committee on Cooperation between the European Parliament and the Azerbaijani Parliament will be held. This cooperation should cover the issues of full mutual respect, regulation of the legislation and other issues. But, despite this, a group of deputies, who are under the influence of other groups of the European Parliament, hastily held an emergency meeting and adopted a resolution against Azerbaijan, which makes us feel pity. If this decision was made at the committee meeting with the participation of the majority, it would not cause a feeling of regret and surprise," he said.
Alasgarov said adoption of such a decision at a time when Baku organized at a high level Eurovision 2012 contest is nothing more but anti-Azerbaijani propaganda.
"As if someone made a goal not to admit Azerbaijan to Europe. But there is a strange point in the root of it. The progress made by Azerbaijan in recent years, large-scale projects in the region, have caused envy of some forces. Forces that do not want to see independent, strong Azerbaijan, and by such ways they want to prevent the development of Azerbaijan, to attack its growing image in the world," the Deputy Speaker said.
Such policy is pursued not only against Azerbaijan, but also against countries that have embarked on the path of European integration, he said.
"Those who once referred to Ukraine as a country, rapidly integrating into Europe, now even protest against the holding the European football championship there," Alasgarov said.
This issue will be raised at the meeting of the Committee on Cooperation, which will be held on June 20 - 21 in Brussels and the Azerbaijani delegation will express its strong protest against this resolution, adopted by the European Parliament.
Despite this, Azerbaijan will not swerve from the path of integration into Europe, from the path of democratic development, will continue transformation to protect human rights in Azerbaijan, he added.
