A market will operate at the Astara checkpoint, head of Customs Department under the Iranian Interior Ministry Nurali Islampanah said today, Iran's Customs Administration reported.

A bridge at the Astara checkpoint will be expanded to develop trade relations between Iran and Azerbaijan," he said. "A market will operate here."

He said that the seaport in Astara will promote the development of trade relations.

Earlier, in an interview with Trend, Director of the Free Economic Zone "Araz" Sadiq Necati said a new customs checkpoint will be constructed in the village Gulubeyli on the Iranian-Azerbaijani border.

Besides the Astara checkpoint, Bilasuvar and Julfa checkpoints operate between the two countries.

Azerbaijani citizens have had visa-less travel to Iran since February 1, 2010, when visa requirements were unilaterally abolished.
