Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received on Thursday the Deputy Secretary General of NATO on new security challenges Gabor Iklodi, according to a statement on the Ministry's official website.

During the meeting, Mammadyarov expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO.

The Minister spoke about Azerbaijan's contribution to peace and stability at the regional and international level, and added that Azerbaijan will continue to proceed in this direction.

Touching upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the Foreign Minister said this conflict is a major obstacle to the establishment of permanent peace and stability in the region. The Minister stressed that in order to solve the conflict, the Armenian armed forces must withdraw from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in the first place.

Gabor Iklodi noted that NATO attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan and praised the role of Azerbaijan in ensuring peace and stability at the regional and international scale.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the prospects of expanding cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan's cooperation with international organizations as well as on regional issues.
