Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev outlined several important points not only about the role of this forum, but Azerbaijan's role in the modern world and the region at the opening of the Baku International Humanitarian Forum, the Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi told Trend Oct.2.
He said that the president paid great attention to the topic of multiculturalism.
"Multiculturalism is a very important topic for Azerbaijan," said Shvydkoi.
"Representatives of different nationalities reside here, and policy of equally respectful treatment position in relation to the various nations, representatives of various concessions that inhabit Azerbaijan is a natural need of the state," he said. "And this is while the majority of the population is Azerbaijani."
Shvydkoi said that the second important topic that was highlighted by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is a topic related to the cross-cultural process, in which Azerbaijan plays a very important role because of the geographical circumstances.
"This is one of the most important cultural, political and economic centers located between East and West, between the Muslim world and the Slavic, the European world," Shvydkoi said. "This position is of huge preference to Azerbaijan in discussions of a number of issues," Shvydkoi said.
The annual Baku International Humanitarian Forum this year is held October 2-3, and tours to Nakhchivan, Lankaran, Guba and Gabala regions will be organized October 4-5.
The forum involves well-known politicians, representatives of the social and political circles, figures of science and culture.
