Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkey at the request of the ministry of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan is investigating information about the detention of a passenger bus in this country by unidentified gunmen, the bus allegedly had Azerbaijani citizens, the embassy told Trend Aug.1.
Embassy together with the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Kars is checking the information in law enforcement bodies of Turkey.
Earlier it was reported that on July 31, unknown armed men detained a passenger bus with 70 passengers on Kars-Igdir-Erzurum main highway. Azerbaijanis allegedly were among the captured passengers. People were held for several hours before they were released, and their valuables and documents were taken away.
The incident with a bus occurred in the Kagizman district between Igdir and Kars, according to the information received by the Embassy and the Consulate General of the country in Kars from the Turkish law enforcement agencies, the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Hikmat Hajiyev told Trend Aug.1.
During the incident none of the bus passengers, including the citizens of Azerbaijan, has been injured, said Hajiyev. The number of Azerbaijanis who were among the passengers of the bus is currently being specified. The diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan establish contacts with law enforcement agencies of Turkey on this issue.
Hajiyev said that the persons, who became participants of the incident, can call the hotline of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Kars in order to solve the consular issues:
