Chief of General Staff hails level of co-op between Azerbaijani, Turkish armed forces (exclusive)

The relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan, built on solid foundation, have reached the level of strategic partnership, Chief of General Staff of Turkish Armed Forces Hulusi Akar exclusively told Trend Oct.6.

The power of Turkey and Azerbaijan is based on the common history, culture which is the key to strong ties between the two countries, according to Akar.

He said that the cooperation between Azerbaijani and Turkish armed forces is an important aspect in this regard.

"Today, the armed forces of Turkey and Azerbaijan cooperate in the spheres of training, military exercises and defense industry, share their skills and experience in military build-up," he said, adding that this cooperation will continue in the future as well.

The chief of General Staff noted that additionally, over 7,000 Azerbaijani servicemen were trained in Turkey's military educational institutions and currently, 245 Azerbaijani servicemen continue their education in these institutions.

The joint drills 'TurAz Qartali', 'TurAz Sahini' and ground forces are the bright example of the level of cooperation between the two countries' armed forces, according to Akar.

"Turkey has achieved great success in defense industry and closely follows the development of Azerbaijan's defense industry sphere," he said.

Hulusi Akar noted that the transfer of technologies and joint manufacturing of defense industry products can allow to reach even higher level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey in this sphere.
