Persons aligned to illegal armed formations abroad held accountable in Azerbaijan

Trend:

Operational and investigative activities of the State Security Service (SSS) of the Republic of Azerbaijan are continuing with regard to persons involved in the illegal armed groups’ activities outside the country, Trend reports with reference to the State Security Service.

As a result of the investigation conducted by the State Security Service, grounds for suspicion have been established that Azerbaijani citizens Seymur Huseynov (born in 1976) and Elkhan Novruzbekov (born in 1970), having left the country, they first arrived in the Iran’s Tehran city, and from there illegally crossed to the territory of other foreign states in order to participate in military exercises and armed conflicts as part of illegal armed groups.

During the investigation, it turned out that Huseynov was a member of an illegal armed unit led by a person nicknamed "Abuzer", and Novruzbekov was a member of an illegal armed group led by Gasimov Vusal Gazanfarovich.

Huseynov and Novruzbekov have been found guilty under Articles 12.1, 279.1 (participation in the activities of armed groups not provided for in legislation) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
