BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 5. Azerbaijan is making serious efforts to effectively use the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said, Trend reports.

He spoke at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Caspian littoral states in Moscow.

"Azerbaijan has a sophisticated infrastructure, with transportation and logistical capacities that are expanding. Our country plays a vital role in the development of international transportation corridors running east-west and north-south, the success of which impacts the interests of other countries in the region. We are making considerable efforts to efficiently employ the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), which will maximize the use of the Caspian littoral states' transport capacity and enable the implementation of new transport infrastructure development projects," he said.

Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that, despite the fact that Azerbaijan today has the largest merchant fleet in the Caspian Sea, it is building new tankers and cargo ships.

"Simultaneously, work is underway to improve Alat's ports in order to enhance cargo turnover from 15 million to 25 million tons. All of this will generate extra chances for cargo delivery in the east-west and north-south directions, as well as make a substantial contribution to improving the Caspian Sea's transportation capabilities," Bayramov added.

The meeting is chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The meeting is attended by foreign ministers of the Caspian littoral states: Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan.
