BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 18. President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev is slated to pay a visit to Azerbaijan on May 7-8, Trend reports.
"The Bulgarian President was supposed to visit Azerbaijan at the end of March, but postponed the visit as a result of the government crisis in Bulgaria and the need to form a new Cabinet of Ministers for the period until the June parliamentary election," the Bulgarian press wrote.
Rumen Radev informed President Ilham Aliyev of the postponement of the visit during a phone conversation on March 29, and then the two leaders agreed to arrange a new date for the visit through diplomatic channels.
During their March phone discussion, the presidents of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan highlighted extensive prospects for enhancing partnerships across energy, transportation, and investments. They emphasized the need to establish new bilateral agreements to broaden the legal framework of cooperation.
Bulgaria and Azerbaijan agreed to open direct air service between the capitals, Sofia and Baku, starting June 7 with twice-weekly flights. Moreover, Bulgaria has been receiving Azerbaijani gas since 2021 and is interested in expanding the spheres of energy cooperation.
"The documents to be signed in Baku on May 7-8 are being coordinated," Bulgarian media say.
Furthermore, Bulgaria will hold a parliamentary election on June 9 to form a government.
Since early April, Bulgaria has had a provisional government headed by Interim Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, and the formation of the Cabinet of Ministers is still underway.
