BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 16. The Araz River is subjected to pollution from the territory of Armenia, both by nuclear power plants and direct emissions from metallurgical plants of various types, prosecutor of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Sanan Pashayev said during a scientific-practical conference on "Environmental Water Offenses Contributing to Climate Change," Trend reports.
“There are territories directly adjacent to the Araz River and numerous settlements, crops, and pasture lands of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic along the Araz. Such pollution of the Araz River seriously threatens the life and health of the population, economy, and agriculture of Nakhchivan,” he added.
Educating the public about the importance of conserving water was stressed by Sanan Pashayev, who highlighted that Nakhchivan is home to surface, subsurface, and border water bodies.
