BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 20. As part of the political consultations between the states, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Lithuania convened for a regular meeting in Vilnius on September 20, 2024, the MFA told Trend.

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, while the Lithuanian side was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Jonas Survila.

During the meeting, the current status and prospects for developing relations in political, economic, and humanitarian areas were discussed, emphasizing the importance of continued high-level mutual visits.

The need to expand the legal framework and enhance inter-parliamentary cooperation was also highlighted. The presence of broad opportunities for cooperation in the fields of transport, alternative energy, high technology, agriculture, and the agro-industrial sector, and the importance of the activities of the Azerbaijani-Lithuanian intergovernmental commission for the development of economic ties were emphasized.

Additionally, exchanges in the humanitarian sector, education, culture, and tourism were deemed beneficial for strengthening international contacts.

The discussions also covered mutual interests, including continued cooperation in multilateral formats. The Lithuanian side was informed about the upcoming session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) set to take place in November 2024 in Azerbaijan.

Moreover, the Lithuanian side was informed about the situation in the region during the post-conflict period, focusing on Azerbaijan's constructive steps toward establishing lasting peace and addressing the landmine issue in liberated territories alongside ongoing large-scale reconstruction efforts.

During the visit, Rzayev also met with other Lithuanian officials and participated in roundtable discussions with representatives from analytical and research centers.
