The USA does not plan to station its military bases in Azerbaijan, the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish made such a statement on 5 August in Sumgayit, Trend reports.
Replying the question on possibility of re-deployment of the US military bases from Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan, the US Ambassador noted, “for the moment the White House has no plans to station military bases in Azerbaijan”.
In regard to the Washington’s standpoint on the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, the Ambassador noted, “the USA maintain friendly relations with all political forces of Azerbaijan and do not show preference to any of the parties”.
According to the American diplomat, the White House is ready to back the democratic institutions development in Azerbaijan. В"We are interested in democratic elections to be held and wish Azerbaijan to become the “source of democracy” in the South Caucasus”, the American diplomat said.
In conclusion, the USA Ambassador touched upon the visit of the Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov to Washington. В"The FM head of Azerbaijan held a number of meetings in Pentagon, the State Department, as well as had talks with the USA non-governmental organizations representatives.
В"During these meetings two main subjects were touched upon: joint terrorism fighting and development of democracy in Azerbaijan”, Harnish noted in conclusion.
