President of the International Committee of the Red Cross arrives to Baku

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) president, Jakob Kellenberger will pay a 2-day visit to Baku on April 3-4. The ICRC president was invited to Baku by the Azerbaijani government, however, it will be a regional visit as well, the ICRC office in Baku told Trend. After Azerbaijan he will visit Georgia and Armenia. Kellenberg ` s visit to the Caucasus will be over on April 7.

The president plans to meet the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, the vice-president and head of the State commission on humanitarian aid, Ali Hasanov in the course of his visit. Besides, a number of meetings is planned to be held in the Foreign Ministry, National Security, Defense, Justice and Health ministries. He will also observe the work of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and visit refugee camp in Sabirabad

The ICRC program realization in Azerbaijan details will be reviewed during the visit. The major topics would be persons missing during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, international humanitarian law teaching in the armed forces of Azerbaijan and tuberculosis treatment program in Azerbaijan.

This will be the first regional visit of Jakob Kellenberger. The last visit of the previous head of the ICRC committee was in 1995

The ICRC has worked in Azerbaijan since 1992.
