During the next meeting of Milli Majlis [Azerbaijani Parliament] on October 20, a number of Deputies expressed their concern regarding the pressure on the Press.
The Deputies stressed that the ANS Channel has been selected as a target by the Taxes Ministry of Azerbaijan, Trend reports. Expressing his opinion on this issue, the Chairman of the Parliament, Oktay Asadov, emphasized that the ANS Group of Companies had forwarded a letter to the Parliament Chairman. We will consider this letter. After making a decision, we will invite the head of the TV Company and render the necessary assistance, the Speaker stated.
Touching upon the issue of Azadlig newspaper, Asadov ruled out that no-one would shut down the newspaper. The problem will be resolved lawfully. Only the Property Committee has appealed to the court. Azadlig newspaper should also raise a claim. They have not been deprived of this right, Asadov said, adding that he will consider the case.
