US Ambassador: US against Section 907 of Freedom Support Act

Anne Derse, the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan, stated during the news-conference at the U.S. Embassy, that the U.S. is against the existence of Section 907 on Freedom Support Act. The news conference was connected with contribution of two special cars to the Azerbaijan Custom Service, Trend reports.

She said that the Custom Service plays the decisive role in the 21 century.

For the sake of national interests, they are combating terrorism, corruption, contraband, and falsification. Therefore, officers of the Azerbaijan Custom Service have particular responsibilities, said Mrs. Derse.

The American Ambassador said that the Azerbaijan Custom Service achieved some progress in a short time.

Azerbaijan has showed its desire and intention to meet with European standards in this field, she said.

Mrs. Derse said that a Special Envoy of the U.S. Customs Service is expected to arrive in Azerbaijan soon. An agreement on cooperation in this field is expected to be signed between the two countries during the forthcoming visit of the top official of the American Custom Service. The U.S. will continue its aid to Azerbaijan not only in the customs field but also in other spheres. She also stressed that the American position towards Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act did not change and official Washington is against the existence of the above-mentioned Amendment.
