Condition of Women in South Caucasus to be Discussed in Paris

The Deputy of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Elmira Akhundova, informed Trend that a meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee of the Council of Europe for Gender Equality (woman and man equality) will take place in Paris on December 12. She said that on December 11 she will leave for Paris to participate at the meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee of the Council of Europe for Gender Equality. I represent Azerbaijan in this Committee, Akhundova said.

According to her, the MP from the Armenian Parliament, Ermine Nagdalyan is expected to deliver a report at the meeting.

Nagdalyan prepared the report on the topic Reasons of women poverty in Europe. I want to hear this reports, and if the document reflects the items that do not satisfy us, I will ask to base them, she said. Akhundova said that the meeting will also cover the report of the MP from Russia, Vera Oskin. This report has been dedicated to the situation with women in South Caucasus. This reports has direct relations with Azerbaijan, and we may have questions regarding this document, she said.

Akhundova said that Oskin has arrived in Azerbaijan and Armenia while devising the report. To my knowledge, the report does not separate items regarding the situation of the refugees. I have repeatedly said and will once again say at the meeting in Paris that as long as the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and the problems emerged as a result of the same conflict exist, it is impossible to speak about normal life of the Azerbaijani women, their education and rights. This conflict is the key reason for the hard situation of the Azerbaijani women. But the reporters do not want to include this question in their reports. If these questions are not included in the reports, I will express my dissatisfaction, Akhundova said. According to her, the reporters want to keep balance between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but it is unacceptable.
