Azerbaijani Open Society Party Reaches Cooperation Agreements with Several Opposition Parties

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The Chairman of the Azerbaijani Open Society Party (OSP), Akif Shahbazov, said on 21 May that the party has agreed to sign bilateral cooperation agreements with several opposition parties.

According to Shahbazov, OSP intends to sign bilateral cooperation agreements with several opposition parties, including Musavat, Liberal Party, Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Umid Party, Great Establishment Party, Adalat Party and other opposition organizations. Yet no response has been received from the Azerbaijani National Independence Party (ANIP). Shahbazov said that the cooperation agreement will include obligation to fight for democratic elections. These agreements also envisage joint cooperation in the forthcoming presidential elections. The chairman of the party said that the agreement will be signed after a forum initiated by OSP on 25 May in Baku.

The Leader of the Azerbaijani Open Society Party is ex-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Rasul Guliyev. Guliyev chaired the Azerbaijani Democratic Party between 2000 and 2007. The supporters of the ex-minister who parted from the Azerbaijani Democratic Party established the Azerbaijani Open Society Party.
