Fifty-Nine Cases of Drug Trafficking Uncovered in Azerbaijan in 2007
Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The Azerbaijan State Customs Committee revealed fifty-nine cases of drug trafficking in Azerbaijan for 2007. A division head of the Central Drugs Enforcement Department of the State Customs Committee, Nizami Guliyev, reported to Trend that the number of drug trafficking-related crimes revealed by customs officials was increasing from year to year. According to Guliyev, customs officials of the Azerbaijani Astara region have recently discovered 30kg of hashish hidden in construction materials, in an attempt to have them transported from Iran. A criminal case was filed according to the breach.
