US Missile-Defense System Directed against Threats from Iran: Ambassador
Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend K.Ramazanova / The U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Anne E. Derse, said on 19 July in Baku that the US missile-defense system has been directed against threats from Iran, but not Russia.
She stressed that the incorrect information on the US project is linked with insufficient information. "We always state in bilateral and multilateral talks with Russian colleagues that the US missile-defense system is linked with threats from Iran," the Ambassador said.
According to the Ambassador, the US proposal to establish a missile-defense system in Poland will not affect the strategic balance in Europe. Derse said that the USA welcomes the possibility to co-operate with Russia with regards to the missile-defense system and several times offered to hold joint discussions to use the radars. " Russia should understand that the US missile-defense system has been directed against threats from Iran, but not Russia," the diplomat said.
