Azerbaijani Party Protests against Iranian President’s Visit

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Opposition Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP) protests against the visit of the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to Azerbaijan.

The party accuses the Government of Iran of assimilation, violence against the Azerbaijanis residing in South Azerbaijan. ANIP states that Ahmadinejad's visit to Baku grazes the sense of Azeri people.

"We are protesting against the visit of State Head who does not cease his hostility policy with regards to Azerbaijan. The visit of high ranking representatives of this Country to Azerbaijan is unacceptable as long as the Persian chauvinist regime dos not respectfully approaches the history, culture, national traditions and religious values of Azerbaijan," mentioned by the party's statement.

According to unofficial information, nearly 35mln Azerbaijanis reside in Iran. ANIP, Congress of the World Azerbaijanis and other organizations plan to hold a demonstration in front of Iranian Embassy in Baku to protest against Iranian President's visit to Azerbaijan.
