Azerbaijan, Baku / Т corr.S.Ilhamgizi / A competition on military patriotism topic in media will be announced in 2008, stated a source in the Council of Press of Azerbaijan to Trend agency on 18 December.
Council of Press and Executive Administration of the Terter region are organizers of the competition. The competition will be concluded before the national Novruz holiday.
The idea to hold such a competition was offered by members of the Council of Press and journalists during the visit to front zones. It was decided to draw both print and electron media in the country to the competition. Monitoring of materials on military-patriotic topic will be implemented during the competition. Winners will be defined on the basis of evaluation by jury of five people. Media festival will be held in Terter to grant prizes to winners.
The conflict between the two countries of the South Caucasus began in 1988 due to Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Since 1992, Armenian Armed Forces have occupied 20% of Azerbaijan including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and its seven surrounding districts. In 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement at which time the active hostilities ended. The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group ( Russia, France, and the US) are currently holding peaceful negotiations.
Terter region is located in the front zone with Armenia.
The chairman of the Council of Press Aflatun Amashov stated that media should render its assistance in order to rise military spirit among population, as well as strugglers' believe in victory. Therefore, it was decided to stage the competition in Terter frontier region of Azerbaijan.
