Enough Means Should be Allocated to Develop Azerbaijani Science, Says President of ANAS

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 11 / Trend corr. I.Alizade / The President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) believes that enough financial means should be allocated to get serious results in science.

"If today a scientist's salary makes up AZN 150, we cannot wait for any good results in science," Mahmud Karimov, the President of the ANAS, told journalists on Dec. 11.

Recently, some institutions of the Academy have been suspended, some of them have been united and as a result, about 1,500 employees have been dismissed. At present the Academy possesses 9,509 employees. More than 30 institutes, scientific centers and museums function at the Academy.

It will be possible to achieve good results in science, if there are new facilities and equipments for science and high salaries for scientists, he said.

"Salaries of the Academy's employee were doubled in 2004. After it, all indicators have risen more than twice, as well as numbers of articles and scientific work have been increased. All of these are connected to finance. It is possible to achieve better results in science under presence of new equipment, finance and facilities," Karimov said.

As to suspension of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Karimov said that its result is currently unknown.
