Additional textbooks were printed to address the textbook shortage for first graders, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov said on Thursday.

He said the problem has been solved in secondary schools.

"This problem is due to the fact that a previously made forecast on the number of students was not confirmed. There are more first graders than originally expected. Therefore, we urgently published these books and sent them to the schools. Now there is no problem with the textbooks," Mardanov said.

He said that school heating systems are also being worked on for the upcoming autumn season. However, despite this, there still may be problems.

"There are more than 4,500 schools, many kindergartens and schools. So, we can not say that the problem with the heating in these institutions will be fully resolved. These problems are solved from year to year, because the regions and even the villages run on gas," the Minister said.

Mardanov denied reports that a gas or oil line passes through the grounds of school 311 in the Sabunchu district of Baku. Activity at the school was suspended by his order.

"In any case, the health of students and teachers is important to us, and based on the decisions of the relevant government agencies, pupils were temporarily transferred to other schools. Upon completion of the safety-related works, the schoolchildren will go back to their schools and be able to continue their studies. Alternatively, a new school will be built," he said.
