Azerbaijan expands export geography of honey - agriculture ministry

Development of the beekeeping sector may increase employment in the agricultural sector of Azerbaijan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Seyfaddin Talibov said at the opening of the 20th republican trade fair of beekeeping products, Trend reports.
He said that beekeeping is one of the areas in which Azerbaijan that has ancient traditions.
“Beekeeping holds an inherent place in the development of the agricultural sector,” he noted. “Over the past two years, significant innovations have been observed in this area. The number of bee families has reached 503,000.”
The deputy minister reminded that last year, about six tons of honey were exported.
“This year, honey exports have exceeded eight tons, and the export geography has expanded,” he said. “We can further expand this geography.”
The deputy minister stressed that following the fair, low-quality honey will be returned to their owners. Presently, these varieties of honey are stored in quarantine warehouses, he said.
“This year, a little more than 120 tons of honey were put up for sale,” he added. In his words, the low-quality honey, which amounted to 14 percent of the total volume, was not allowed for sale.
