Demand for minibuses in Azerbaijan may grow following intercity traffic resumption

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb.3

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

Until 2020, when the tourism sector of Azerbaijan was in good condition, minibusses accounted for about 40 percent of the total number of imported cars in the transport sector of Azerbaijan, auto expert Elmaddin Muradli told Trend.

“The passenger capacity of these vehicles is 8, 14, and 16 seats. Currently, the need for minibusses is minimal - they are purchased by some organizations in connection with personal needs, as well as by entrepreneurs engaged in private transportation,” he said.

According to Muradli, in connection with the planned and phased resumption of traffic between the cities of Azerbaijan and the liberated lands, the demand for minibusses may resume.

Due to the fact that thousands of employees of different industries will work in the liberated territories, it is necessary to determine the demand for their transportation, which can be carried out both by the state and by private entrepreneurs, Muradli said.

“In the future, when the citizens of our country will be able to visit the liberated territories for tourist, personal, and other purposes, the demand for buses and minibusses will increase significantly,” said the expert.

He noted that due to the lack of production of such vehicles in Azerbaijan, they will be imported from foreign countries.

“Two years ago, the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan increased duties on import of buses, and hereby we do not have local production of such vehicles and are striving to implement a plan to update bus fleets,” Muradli said.

He added that the average price of buses starts from half a million manat and the state should support private entrepreneurs in the field of transportation, exempting them from customs duties in terms of renewing their bus fleet.
