BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. Timber shipments to four countries, in the structure of Russian export rail transportation in March 2022, increased sharply - Belarus (by 181 percent), Turkey (by 163 percent), Azerbaijan (by 37 percent) and Egypt (23 percent), Trend reports with reference to all-Russian organization specializing in the comprehensive solution of forest accounting and forest management tasks in the interests of the state (Roslesinforg).

According to Roslesinforg, an increased demand for the transportation of sawn timber is observed in almost all directions that are not related to crossing European borders.

"At the same time, if earlier more than half of deliveries to Turkey (mainly lumber and plywood) went through the seaports of Saint Petersburg (Shushary and Avtovo stations) and Krasnodar regions (Port of Novorossiysk and Port of YEYSK), now, due to sanctions pressure, Russian timber carriers have shifted their focus to railway corridors to carry out significant volumes of international timber supplies,” Roslesinforg noted.

“The cargo goes to Baku and from there along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway corridor further to Turkey,” company added.
